it comes with the new system i'm gonna buy, i'm confused to whether it's a KT266 or a KT266a, i know the site says it's a KT266, but it's not a too detailed explanation anyway, and if the normal KT266 is so bad, why would they use it with athlon xp 2000s, can they even be used with them? here are the specs i'm pastin off the site

Asus Athlon DDR/XP enabled

Form Factor - ATX
CPU Architecture - Socket A
Chipset - VIA KT266
Frontside Bus - 266/200MHz
Memory Support - 3x DDR DIMM
Maximum Memory - 3Gb
AGP Slot - 1x AGP Pro/AGP 4x
PCI Slot - 5x
ACR Slot - 1x
IDE Controller - 2x UDMA-100
Serial Ports - 2x UART
Parallel Ports - 1x EPP/ECP
USB Ports - 4x
Compliancy - PC99

u can see for u'reself the picture of it at www.meshplc.com , select to see info about the baord it shows a picture

Can you give us a direct link so we don't have to search for an hour and guess? Thanks ;)

agh well, it's one of those sites where it stays the same address at the top

basicly, to see it, u go to the mesh shop, select to configure an XP system, and next to the motherboard it tells u there will be an info tab

thanks

under the picture it says "for illustration purposes only" makes me think thats not an actual picture of the motherboard included with that system

but... the kt266 chipset isnt that bad, the only problem is it lacks the speed of the kt266a... the kt266 is faster then any of sdr boards, but its probably the slowest ddr board

here is a link to a good article on anandtechs main page about the chipset... one thing to remember that article was written when the chipset was first released, that means newer bios have been released for the boards which will help stability and performance

i would have thought if this baord was so 'bad' it would have been discontinued to make way for the KT266a.

which ever baord it is, it can support upto an xp 2000, as other systems of that spec use the same board it says on the site.

u know what, i think the system will come with a KT266a....

i went on the asus and via sites and looked at the

KT266- http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7v266/overview.htm

and

KT266a- http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7v266-e/overview.htm

the KT266 asus baord says it does not support athlon XP, the KT266a however says it does, and the system i am getting comes with an athlon XP 1700

i could be wrong, as i'm quite a newbie, but i've read reviews of mesh systems and they've done very well, and nothing has be said about the M board
