You need to check out some of your prices on the Hot Deal forum here and you definitely need to check your prices against newegg.com and pricewatch.com.

You can get that Corsair value ram at under $100(use promo code NewSave10) delivered from newegg, and I know they got a deal going somewhere with that NEC DVD!

No need to waste your cash. ;)

I know if I don't ask someone else will... any reason you want a Pentium 4 instead of an Athlon-64? You going to be doing some video encoding or heavy multi-tasking?

Are these prices Canadian by chance? :)

Edit: Do you plan to game much with this system?

He's getting ddr2 ram, that's why it's expensive. The corsair ddr2 value ram is like $175, as compared to ddr being 100.

If you get Socket 939 A64, you can get a Toledo dual-core Athlon sometime after this fall, and you'll have a 2-cpu system. Intel is not a wise choice for desktop systems right now.

From what I hear from reviews and researching the internet ...

First generation Raptors barely outperform 7200RPM 8MB IDE drives. Maybe either consider shelling out more for a 72 Raptor or stick with an IDE?

Yeah dude I would get a 74gb Raptor if you want a fast drive without going SCSI. The smaller Raptor just isn't that fast, but the 74gb kicks ass.

I'd get a Raptor... the 74 GB one though, not only because it's faster, but because I've found it very easy to fill up my 36 GB one with programs and games that I want to load fast off the fastest hard drive I have.

$1500 rig but the most important part is only $36 ???

Spend $100 on a good power supply, it will pay for itself in energy savings alone in a yrs time , plus be quiet and stable

The one listed above is good or look at

Seasonic Super Tornando
Fortron Blue Storm

The hard drive is the only good thing in that list.

Yup,

The machine will be a dedicated wmv, mpg and avi encoder, as well as doing light graphic and HTML work, hardcore downloading, dvd ripping and burning ,with heavy multitasking.

Then you may seriously want to consider a A64 939, because dual core would be just replacing the processor. On Intel, it will take a new motherboard and a reinstallation of windows as well.

Cool thanks for the info, I did not know that the small raptor was not that good, anyone have links to the review on this bad boy?

Well it seems like everyone has thier own opinion on what I should get.

My budget is $1500 and it must include a 19"LCD. It doesnt have to be top of the line LCD.

Like i mentioned before: The machine will be a dedicated wmv, mpg and avi encoder, as well as doing light graphic and HTML work, hardcore downloading, dvd ripping and burning ,with heavy multitasking.

I play games, but its not important at all to me, so gaming hardware is not priority. Performance when I am doing the above tasks is what I need.

Smaller hard drive, slower processor, unnecessary SLI gaming motherboard, and a LCD that is $80 more for no noticable difference. :p

I think he said something about encoding and massive downloading. And not gaming.

It's also $200 cheaper than your solution. :p

I picked the ASUS because I've always had good luck with their motherboards, not because of the SLI capabilities.

I like pieces of both systems. Antec case(but a sonata), the DFI motherboard, the 3500+ processor, memory is virtually the same, seagate hard drive, same video card, dell montor.
