Can someone figure out the big difference between these 2 systems?

I have 2 computers cracking SETI.. one if which I thought would be a bit faster than the other.. it turns out to be the opposite.

here are the specs:

System A: (my rig)

AthlonXP 1533MHz@1674MHz
512MB of DDR
Soltek SL75DRV4 (KT266A)
Windows 2000 Professional SP3

System B: (new rig)

AthlonXP 1.73GHz (2100+)
256MB of DDR
Asus A7V266-E (KT266A)
Windows 2000 Professional SP3

I figured the second system would be quicker, the 256MB shouldn't make a difference in SETI times. I figured the main difference is, mine is running around 143 FSB, now, is SETI THAT FSB intense that it would actually make that much difference? I am just not sure about this. I didnt think the times would be the way they are. mine is pulling 3:05 WU's and the other one is doin 3:20-3:30. I really like the Soltek board cause of this now... I honestly think there must be a difference in the boards somewhere!! Anyone?

Hrm....

My 1800+ @ 1686MHz (146.7MHz FSB) on ECS K7S5A with 512ddr is doing about 3:30 (now that i turned off ZAP, was doing 3:40 before) under WinXP but your 3:05 is a helluva lot quicker than that :Q

I think i might need a reinstall of Windows anyway, its starting to get slow generally!

Will wait til i get my replacement 40gb drive from Seagate before i do that tho to go in my "Server"

I would say that it is the FSB. My times decrease when I raise my FSB. I was putting out a WU in 4:15 hours with a FSB of 147 with an Athlon 1800XP, I got a new Mobo and pumped the FSB to 170 and chopped 45 minutes off my time!

I'm no seti expert, but here's my 2 cents.

Limit the number of things that load when Winblows starts. The less crap in your system tray or running invisibally in the background the better.
If you're running seti as a service (which you should be) pull Properties on My Computer and click on the Advanced tab. Click on Performance Options and optimize performance for Background Services. That should bump it up a little. :D

One good reason to run Seti as a service is if there is a power surge and the system reboots you'll keep crunching.:) Also it will be hidden to the user generally. Plus if you are running Outlook on a Seti machine they seem to get along a lot better.
