Can someone explain USENET to me or send me a link?

I went to deja.com and it took me to http://groups.google.com/

I can't figure out how to use is to ftp. It's more than just a bunch of threads right?

Usenet is newsgroups. I think most ISPs have a server that you can use. Search google.com and I'm sure you can find more info.

That's a tough one. Usenet can be pretty difficult to get into without direct guidance. What I did was d/l XNews (free), got my news server from my ISP (free with service) and played around with it until I figured it out. Then someone posted a bunch of files called "Newsgroup Toolkit" that I downloaded which more or less outlined everything. Get your feet wet that way and then come back with some more specific questions.

I personally use Forte Inc (www.forteinc.com)'s Agent on my XP box, and Pan for Linux.

can it be used to download music and music videos? a thread on OFF TOPIC mentioned that USENET is the replacement for P2P.

Then another thread said WinMX is the way to go.

usenet has been around for 20 years. Do a google search on usenet and you will find some info about it. Remember to not use your good email address since it will be spammed heavily. I use an email address that i have just for public stuff like that.

Yes, you can get your fix of pirated music, movies, and, of course, pr0n from usenet 🙂. You'll need a better program than outlook express to do it though. I don't really use newsgroups, so I wouldn't know what is tops
