Can someone explain to me why iTunes gift cards are going for more than face value on eBay?

limited supply and a lot of demand will make the bidders compete incredibly.

or

fake buyers are pumping up the price.

or

stupid bidders who could buy direct from itunes.com at face value.

It gives me a wonderful sense of my own elite status in society to only use itunes cards that i've paid at least twice the face value for. You peasants wouldn't understand it at all.

Wow $99 for a $70 card 😕

And in the auction it shows a $50 card, but guess thats just for a generic pic.

thats crazy

I don't buy anything from a private seller nor do I believe that anything that a private seller is offering is legit. Thusly, I don't believe that the iTunes cards are going for market value + $x

Overseas customers who want to use a GC because it allows them to buy from the US store at cheaper prices than they would pay in their own country + weak dollar prices makes it value for money for them?
(Assuming you can use a US GC on US iTunes from a non-US country and the auctions ship to places outside the US)

If it is possible, then for the UK at least, anything under 1.5x the face price on the GC is cheaper than UK prices. So paying $75 for a $50 GC means it's effectively the same price as it would be buying direct from UK iTunes, but paying anything under $75 means it's cheaper.

can you get itunes cards internationally from apple?

if not then I can see where people would want these, maybe....

Hey, we're talking about Apple users here. These guys will spend an extra $100 just to get their Macbook in black... What's an few extra bucks for an iTunes gift card?

Wasn't me, but it wouldn't matter much since the search sucks 😛

I know. I tried to search for it because I swear it had like the same title. Interestingly, searching for itunes or ebay didn't bring up your thread at all. I love it.

I asked the question to one of the bidders.

Because i live in greece and i can only buy music from the greek itunes store and there they dont sell any videos or tv shows , i cant buy anything from the us apple store because i need a credit card with a us billing address, so i buy this card and plan to use it with a fake us address ......now with difference of euro and dollar imagine that if i even buy music from the us store it costs me 0,70euro per song and the greek store charges 0,99euro per song....So this way it solves me the problem with the tv shows and i also save some money ......

Also, in addition to overseas people (as mentioned above), anyone without a valid itunes payment method may be willing to pay over face. If you buy an iTunes GC on ebay, you can (often) pay with check/MO/paypal/other.
