Can Someone Explain This?

I was unaware where I should post this, but this puzzles me. A picture that is 0X0 pixels is 60kb? I don't even know how this picture got on my PC as I don't remember saving it. Hell, even if I did intentionally save it, how would I go about saving a picture that technically doesn't exist?

There could be 60K worth of data just to say there's nothing there. Reformat the media and move on.

So a picture file doesn't necessarily have to be a picture if data is present?

The image file may be an empty image, but may have metadata associated with it. This metadata may included bit-depth, geographic coordinates, details on the program that created it etc.

Thanks. Is there a possibility that this is associated with any type of virus? Seeing as how I don't know where it came from and I didn't save it, it stands to reason that it was put there somehow. I scanned last night and came up with nothing, so I am sure I am in the clear. It just puzzles me as to where it came from.

I know of no virus that does that. Almost sounds like what happens when you accidentally take a picture with the lens cap on.

Well, just to clarify, I don't own a digital camera. This picture was found in the My Videos folder. which previously, did not contain any pictures.

When I loaded the image, all I see is a gray dot about 5mm in diameter.
