Can someone explain the difference between sinlge and dual link dvi?

Ok I want to buy a dvi cable but there are so many types!

analog/digital to analog/digital single link
analog/digital to analog/digital dual link
digital to digital single link
digital to digital dual link

I have a Xtasy G3 Ti500 and I want to hook it up to my HDTV and also to a Dell 20" LCD when the price drops. I would like to know why there are so many variances. Thanks in advance for educating a noob to DVI.
