Can someone explain the difference between a DIGITAL cordless phone vs. an ANALOG cordless phone?

For some reason (i'm an idiot) I can't figure out the difference between these two formats. Is one less secure than the other or does it cause more/less interference?

Thanks.

The difference is that with digital phones (depending on the connection type), can work on an ISDN line, where as a regular analog phone usually connects to the POTS line. You can buy a Terminal Adapter which will allow your analog phone to connect to an ISDN one.

Um, I think he wants an explanation in English.

All you need to know is that a digital phone will most likely not work on your POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line.

"Analog - The most basic type where voice is simply transmitted to another receiver with no conversion. Analog is to record players as digital is to CDs. Analog phones may have low sound quality and be more vulnerable to interference and eavesdropping.

Digital ? Voice is converted to a digital format before transmission. Because it is digital, certain unwanted noise can be filtered out to reduce inference and unwanted background noise. Digital phones are more secure and less prone to interference because they use codes that help prevent other devices from capturing the signal. " <--- copied from the web

A digital phone uses a digital signal from the phone to the handset, longer range and less chance of being listened to. Digital is better

This has nothing to do with a digital or analog phone line.

Thank you. I was wondering about the digital phone line remark. I know people who don't have a digital line but have a digital cordless phone.

DSS is actually the best. It uses a frequency hopping technology which makes it almost impossible for someone to listen in.

I believe there is equipment that can lock on but I haven't investigated it. I also remember more than one type of Digital Spread Spectrum technology but also haven't looked into it.

her209,

Just for the record...
Were you really that confused about analog and digital phones and phone lines?
