Can someone explain Steam and HL downloads...

I have heard quite a bit about Valves 'Steam' distribution system, but I am not very familar with it. What I really wondering about, is how they are distributing the HL and HL2 games for the coupon that comes with some of the ATI cards... I have one of the coupons, and I am trying to figure out if its like a downloadable ISO of the CD's or something else. I would like to know more about it before I decide to either d/l the games or send the coupon in and have the CD's sent to me...

its just a way to download hl2 to your computer, not sure in what format though

Correction, you don't download it, it's streamed from Steam's servers. A remote application in essense.

I guess since I am on Satellite, I will be going with the CD's...
