The material in the magnet is bipolar, meaning it has a strong negative attraction on one side, and a strong negative attraction on the other. Your refrigerator is also charged similarly. When the side of the magnet opposite the charge of your door comes near it, it is attracted (opposites attract). If you want an explaination of how the attractive forces work...that's another story. :D

thanks alot for explaining to me, this is a question for a physics class. is it possible to explain the attraction in a few sentences ?
