in another two week period, same job, i earned 558.45 but got taxed over 80 dollars.

what caused the difference?

You have a Human Resources department for a freaking REASON.

So what's the reason for the existence of OT?

you made too much money

all the liberals like it that way, "soak the rich" , so the more you make the more you get taxed

good incentive to earn more/work harder, don't you think?

To answer questions like "Where's a good place to buy underwear?" and "How much does staples charge for this laser printer?"

Actually, What Staples charges for a certain product would NOT be the purpose for AT either. The purpose of AT would be to haggle those who are dumb enough to come here and ask instead of look it up for themselves. :)

What may have happend here is that maybe the computer program they are using for the deductions is geared up for a weekly payroll and what it does is take the weekly pay and multiply it times 52 to guess what your annual income will be and then use that percent for the witholding. If it setup for bi-weekly payroll they would just multiply by 26 and because your pay was delayed the program looked it as though it was a smaller amount of time causing the large witholding. Does this make sense to you?

You can even claim huge numbers (like 10) and pay virtually no taxes all year, as long as you have the money to pay your correct tax at the end of the year they don't care.

Viper GTS

Yes, but you'll be jabbed with underpayment penalty, and next year the estimates you'll have to pay will be even more for each quarter.

Bleep got it closest and what I think. You must have gotten in just right on the system when you started working.

Last time I started at a place it was similar. Place is bi-weekly, I started on a Monday in the middle. It accured goofy and had half the wages of 2 weeks, but not nearly enough tax taken out. The subsequent withholding fixed it.

in order to be fica exempt, i need to have 6 units of courses while i work here. unfortunately i only have 4 units (even though i'm taking 4 units elsewhere as well) so i get taxed :(

im considering saving up my timesheets and turning them all in during the regular school year to avoid taxes. anyone think this will help me save some money?

Hrm, the way most departmental budgets work that wont be allowed.
