Can someone explain how cold fusion is supposed to work... in theory at least

It's funny that another member just brought it up because I was thinking about it last night.

I believe it has to do with taking someone's idea, putting a somewhat witty spin on it, and then posting it as your own.

without the intense heat and pressure like exists inside of stars (natures fusion reactors) fusion takes place and gives off massive energy that is harvested for man's use, like turned into electricity and stuff

Simple...

Fusion: find a way to get two atomic nuclei close enough to each other that the strong force pulls them together, creating a new, single particle. The most common approach is to increase the particle's RMS speed (IE, REALLY HOT) and hope that they collide with enough velocity to overcome the electromagnetic and weak forces. We can already do this, vut we get less energy out from the fusion reaction than we put in.

Cold Fusion: Same as above, but do it without using heat.

I came in here to scream wrong forum, but then I realized you weren't talking about the programming language. :p
