I want to buy a DVD burner. I see these terms.

DVD + R, - R, + RW, - RW, and DL.

So R is recordable, and RW is rewritable, right?
What are + and - ? Just two different standards that DVD player might use?
Then +R and +RW both use that "+" standard?

Assuming from above that + and - just mean two standsrards. Then I should find out which one my DVD player use, and then go for those DVD burners?

Does DL simply mean those 9G dvd? And are they + or - or sth?

Thanks.

From what I understood, and I maybe wrong, the "+" ones have burnproof type protection (buffer underrun) and the "-" ones don't.

DL stands for dual layer.

If I'm wrong, I certainly won't mind finding the true answers.

Yes.
Yes.

Yes, but most DVD burners can burn both + and -. Get a sample pack for both formats, burn videos on them, play them on your DVD player to find out which format works. If both works, buy the cheaper format you can find.
Yes, 8.5GB.
