Can someone check my temps?

My first overclock ever. Using E6300 overclock to 2.8Ghz

My temps are

54C idle
60C full load

Are these normal? If so, I'll push it a little higher.

Thanks

System spec:
Intel E6300
Gigabyte 965P-S3
OCZ PC2-6400 800MHz 5-5-5-12
Arctic Cooling freezer 7
Antec Sonata II 450W
EVGA 7950GT

The general consensus is that you should keep your CPU under 65C for full load.

So yes, they are fine, but you might want to be careful going further. What are your volts on the proc? You might have some luck undervolting it a bit to cool it down. It's all luck based, but I've seen 6300's at 3GHz undervolted.

I didn't change any voltage settings.

In cpuz, it says 1.312v
Core temp beta 0.94 says VID 1.3250

Why is there a difference?

It's likely your volts droop a little. Mine says about the same in CPU-Z

Core temp always read 1.325 for me, even if I've changed the volts, so I dunno about that one.

OP: How does your cpu only change 54C to 60C full load? 54C idle is high. Mine idles at about 40C and is 62C at full load (running Orthos). This is with both side panels off and cpu voltage at 1.35

Is a 20C change high? I'm using stock HSF

Ok i went into BIOS and looked at the temp

41C this must be idle

I use speedfan and checked the readings:

temp1: 41C
temp2: 42C

running orthos

temp1: 41C
temp2: 53C

this seems more realistic to me and matches bios readings. Whats up with Core Temp? it says 53C at idle 58C at load

mega56: weird that Core Temp reports only a 5C difference. I don't think that can be right. What are you running under "load"? My temps are with Orthos.

I'm running orthos under load as well.

Ok I followed someones advice and used Intel TAT.

At idle it reads:
54C and 53C

under Orthos, it reads:
58C and 57C

Really confused which reading to believe. I've already knocked down vcore to 1.316v

I reset my BIOS and only changed the FSB and memory multiplier to get it to 2.8 at 400FSB 1:1.

Now my Idle temps are 46C at 1.16v. I think its because I left whatever is throttling my voltage on this time.

Running orthos, 57C at 1.296v

I guess next thing to do is reapply thermal paste. This is getting addictive.

Or you could just disable Smartfan in the BIOS and lose about 10C off your temps and be done with it, unless you're hyper sensitive to fan noise. Frankly I didn't notice any difference in fan noise when I did it.

Roguestar, I'm now using TAT for the readings. thx. I can't trust speedfan

FightTest, I disabled the SmartFAN in the bios and now my temps are 40C and 39C at idle and 50C running orthos. This is better, but I can really hear the fan now.

thanks guys
