Before, I had a GF4MX440 and I hooked it up to my tv and it looked like crap, all blurry and unreadable. But now I have a Radeon 9500PRO and that tv-out looks like crap too!!! For one think I couldn't change the resolution lower than 800x600. Games were playable but ughhh.... Whats the point of putting it on there if you can't really use it?

It's because your TV is not a CRT and the resolution is crap not the card...Games is what people use it for

DVD looks good using Video out. It's text and applications that suck. Games and video are pretty good.

Are you using WinXP? This is the fault of WinXP, go to your dispaly properties, advanced/adapter click list all modes and you can choose 640x480. Microsoft in their wisdom decided that ppl don't need 640x480 anymore. But its still gonna look crappy, the only thing i watch using tv-out is anime

Computer displays have a much higher resolution than standard TV screens do.

Your standard TV has around 525 horizontal lines of resolution. Most computer displays have upwards of 1600 lines (depends on screen size)

You can expect a high resolution picture, when displayed on a low resolution device, to not look quite so good :D

I've read that video cards always downconvert video to a 480i (480 interlaced lines) signal for s-video out no matter what resolution you set your desktop to, which makes sense since I believe 480i is Standard Definition TV. Considering you're probably used to at least 480p (640x480 progressive signal like on all computer monitors), it's no wonder most people think s-video out on video cards sux0r.

Of course :D

That is why PCS cost so much, but I must admit I do prefer watching anime on my TV instead of my Moniter...Reason? Even though my moniter is 4 inches larger, the color blending makes it look nicer and gives the color a richer feel due to the color blending/"anti aliasing (uie bluriness :p) ". The crispiness of the moniter kinda destroys it.

But also the videocard makes a difference. Since my main rig is outta commision I'm using a pc with a 16meg savage4 and my animes look like they are from a 8bit color palat even though some scenes are supposed to be VERY colorful...on my Geforce2 quality is a LOT better...

and my brother's Radeon 9000 makes my geforce2 look pale

using premium(Monster Cable?) S-Video cables makes a huge difference in the clarity of the picture as oposed to the crappy generic component cables electronics come with these days
