Can anybody give me (or point me to) some good info on what exactly you can and can't do with the current crop of DVD drives?
I'm just entirely unclear about all of it. IE this DVD-R vs DVD+R, are 4x and 8x really legitimate speeds (as opposed to average burn speeds or some nonsense), will I be happy with a 4x burner, is the cheaper media really worthwhile or will it not play in anything, etc etc etc.
I'm basically looking at one as a possible backup solution for my PC, with the _obvious_ benefit that I'd like to be able to duplicate DVD movies and possibly games.
Without dragging this into some philosophical discussion, I'm just looking for technical info... basically I can either buy a ~120 gig hard drive, or I can buy a DVD burner, and trying to figure out which I'd be happier with in the long run.
