Can some one identify this ammo box (military)?

It says 'tracer' and 'link' so I'm wondering if it isn't maching gun ammo.

They had lots of cool stuff there. I went to get a POW-MIA shirt that I saw earlier. They have like 3 rocket launchers, and even a large (~30ft) missile of some sort. I was looking for a Vietnam or earlier item, but I like the box. I don't know why. It certainly has that military canvas tent smell. 😉

AK-47 uses 7.62x39 while the M60 uses 7.62 NATO.

7.62 x 51mm big diff in energy.

Thanks, I couldn't remember the length of 7.62 NATO.

Zebo, the M60 is being replaced by a new 7.62x51 MG from what I remember. I can't recall the numbers for the gun, but I think they're in the 200's range like the M249.

M16/M249.

What the next size up we use? This seems pretty light weight for a MG. No more M60?
All infantry rifles are 5.56mm. Sniper rifles are in 7.62 NATO, as is the M60 and M240. M249 and M60s are in use. US Ordinance just put out the M60E4 which is particularly bad ass. Upgraded barrel. Lasts 15,000 rounds. Have a video of 850 linked rounds fired in one trigger pull. Almost 2 minutes of continuous fire. Other rifles would have their barrel turn to pile of goo after that much sustatined fire.

SOCOM units get a little fancier choices. There are uppers in use in Iraq that are chambered for 7.62x39. Kind of weird, it's only 10.

That box is likely linked M249 machine gun ammo.
