While waiting on line with my gf to pay for items she was purchasing, the cashier says "Can I help the next client?"
Everytime I heard that, I cringed.
I wanted to tell them, we are not your clients. We are just plain friggin' customers! :|
Stop trying to butter us up and make yourselves feel upscale by calling us clients.

Just a minor pet peeve :)

Either you don't have a gf, or Sephora is not nationwide.

They sell beauty products, like make-up, perfume, cologne, etc.

Sephora is some overpriced makeup, colone, and purfume store. Client does sound better than customer though.

I don't think it's nationwide... I've never seen it anywhere, and that includes a major city(Pittsburgh).

lots of hotties in Sephora. You can go in cuz they sell men's fragrances. I also like to checkout the ladies at the MAC counter in Nordstorms.

actually, the term "customer" is a subset of "client". so they are technically correct.

I prefer that at some places. At least then i know they are training the people that are working there.

Gah! We got a cross dresser working at the Mac counter in our Filene's. I stay far away from there ever since the time I walked past it and the dude checked me out! * insert full body shiver with retching here *

That place is pretty pricey so I don't see what the problem is being referred to as a client.

Of all the things in life to worry about, I think you chose the wrong one to get aggravated about.

Yes, technically client is a proper term to use in this case, but I usually reserve the usage of client for someone who I have more personal interaction with... someone who I deal with exclusively.

For example -
Doctor :: patient
Department store :: customer
Law firm :: client
