can see other computers, but no internet or email

I'm having trouble getting a coworkers laptop online. It can see other computers in network neighborhood but cannot go online.

I went through the whole tools>internet options> connections>settings and cant find anything that would fix my problem.

Any ideas?

Edit--- i've tried restarting it in safe mode with networking and i'm still not getting any internet.

Check the DNS and gateway settings.

DNS settings are correct. gateway is correct.. anything else?

sounds like you've got file sharing enabled, now you just need an internet conection setup.

are you connecting through a router or hub?

run the wizard again (assuming your in XP) chouse the manual setup, and select connection to internet through a gateway, router, or hub.

networking is really easy with XP
(my grandad can do it : )

How about opening a command prompt and typing:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Post the results.

You might also describe the network in a little more detail. Do you use a broadband router, ICS, dial, etc?
