As most of you knows P6T has 6 SATA and 2 SAS connectors on board.

I'm running 6 WD SATA hard drives and 1 DVD SATA Drive

As of right now 5 hard drives and 1 optical drive connected to SATA connectors and 1 hd connected to SAS connector.

The question I have is it possible to connect SATA optical drive to SAS connector?

TIA

According to this article, yes. Scroll down to the Connectors chart, and it states that the SAS form factor allows SATA devices to be connected to a SAS backplane port, but not the other way around.

SAS

Basically SAS is serial SCSI.

Thank you, yes based on the article it will work.

Just wondering if somebody actually tried it.

I connect SATA drives to a SAS backplane every day at work :)

It works fine, SAS is fully compatible with SATA.
