can running my chainsaw affect my neighbor's electricity?

I was cutting some tree limbs in my side yard when my neighbor's baby sitter asks over the fence if i cut any electricity lines. I wanted to say "if I did, I'd be a fuckin crispy critter"

anyways, I did notice i may have been overloading the circuit because I noticed the side light would dim when I ran it. So I switched outlets and no more dimmming.

But should it affect the neighbor's house too? I did notice my computer shut down.

It shouldn't, unless you're somehow sharing a circuit in an exterior outlet somewhere, which would be foolish, because then how could the electric company bill you correctly?

i would think the problem would lie with the Transformer that both of you are connected to.
Although i would think something like your A/C would suck more juice than your chainsaw.
The transformer distributes the power btw. fed by a primary.

It is possible, if your neighbor shares the same service lines.

The voltage will drop through the wires if there is load on them. However, I wouldn't have thought that a simple chainsaw would cause significant flickering. Although, if it was able to knock a computer off line, maybe the chainsaw was far too powerful for your electrical supply.

However, if you are a long way from the transformer, then it would be possible that there would be faint flickering at the neighbor's.

What happens if you take too much current? Caution: NSFW (profanity)

Your chainsaw should be limited to 15A or 20A (I of course am assuming it's an electric chainsaw) or whatever the circuit breaker is set at. If you're causing that much of a problem, I'd think there was a major electrical issue between the two houses and the transformer.

what is the voltage between your netruel and hot leg? what is it between your hot and ground? sounds like a transformer problem.
