Can ripping a DVD/CD cause damage to it?

I have a small collection of DVD's and I have set up a home theater based around my computer. Insted of that annoying DVD-Rom drive I was thinking about ripping all the dvd's to hard drive.

Is it possible to damage them in the process?

Yea man, just look at the name. Its called ripping your dvds for a reason. Your drive just rips them to bits.

Lol... no, it's fine. But DVDs commonly take up 5gb, often more... you mean you want to shrink them as well?

Thanks for the replies guys. I plan to shrink them as well. I have been doing a lot of reading about how to do it with DVD shrink and DVD encripter or something like that. I'll probibly be on here again asking a few questions 🙂 .

Ripping, shredding, burning - wow, what sheer, utter destruction! No wonder the RIAA/MPAA wants to stop it. They're just a bunch of hippy peaceniks at heart, you know. 🙂 Make Love, Not CD/DVD Copies...
