can recycling tax?!

uh... a can of soda is about 50 cents... and they charge you about 5 cents per can for state tax then 1c per can nonrefundable to run the recycling center? wtf. thats like 12% tax for the soda. and they want us to to recycle the cans? wtf, we now gotta drive to the recycling center with UNCRUSHED cans... wtf, just for that, i am not recycling.

i live in hawaii.
 
they don't take crushed cans.... thats the f-ed up part... so you gotta lug a gigantic rubbish bag full of uncrushed cans to the center.

Here in Oregon we get the hole 5 cents back. They cant be crushed here cause the machines at the grocery store reads the bar code.
 
In Michigan it's $0.10 per can. You should collect all your cans and ship them to MI.
