Can Read CD's with 98SE, but not XP Pro????

Hello, folks. I have a Lite-on 16x burner that burns flawlessly under WIN98SE. Copies, data compilations, audio, etc. But, WIN XP Pro cannot read these disks in either my Lite-on burner or my faithful Toshiba 32x CD-rom. Yep, I can burn a cd beautifully, never take it out of the Lite-on, and WIN XP cannot read it. I can boot from a floppy right into WIN98SE right on the same system, and both drives will read it just fine. What is going on here, and does anyone have a solution? I'll go back to 98se if I cannot read the cd's I just burned......

Thanks a bunch,

Bob

Make sure XP did not change your drive letters meaning your CD rom used to be the "D" drive now it is the "E" drive and the 16x burner be came your new "D" drive......this will cause the drive/s to not read properly (paths) and you might lose to ability to play music in your CD rom also. Usually that's a good clue !! 🙂

Also make sure you are using the default burning program that came with XP Pro and remove any burning software that maybe left over from your Win 98 system....other than that I prefer always the CDRW slaved to the harddrive and the CD rom a master on its own IDE port that way you can CD copy without worry of read/write problems from using the same port and you don't have to copy to the harddrive first before burning to a CD

Hope you get it straightened out

My drives are as such: IBM 30 gig = C;, D:, and E:. Lite-on 16x CD-RW is F:, and my Toshiba 32x CD is G:.
They are all recognized properly in Device manager and My Computer. Audio CD's still play fine in the Toshiba. I am using Nero 5.5, and installed it after I had XP loaded (Per the Nero Ahead site). Where is the built-in burner in XP?? I don't see it......

Thanks,

Bob
