Can RAID ports be used as regular IDE ports, with CD-RW etc?

Won't be using it as RAID, but the extra IDE ports will be nice. Can they be used as regular IDE ports?
Guys got me looking at that Soyo Dragon Plus now 🙂

Actually in a lot of motherboards the RAID controllers will not work with cd cdrw drives. They might have changed in the last 6 months, but I doubt it. I would check out the Soyo Dragon + if you are interested in having more ide channels. Sometimes the raid controller will work for hard drives (set as singles), but not always.

Good Luck.

It depends how the raid controller is implemented whether is will support single HDs in non-raid mode. I'm not sure any support cd or cdrw drives. As far as 266a based raid boards go some support it (Abit, Soyo) and some don't (MSI). I don't know about Epox 8KHA+, or the Shuttle raid board. Have to check out the specs from thier websites.

I'm kicking myself for not spending the extra $20 for the KR7A raid board...I could really use the extra IDE ports 🙁

The Highpoint RAID (HPT370 and 372) controllers will allow you to use ATAPI devices, the Promise Fasttrack-Lite used on many motherboards won't.
