Can RAID IDE device be used seperately

Can all 8 IDE devices on a RAID motherboard be for seperate drives or do some/all have to be used in a raid configuration? I currently have a additional PCI based IDE controller but would like to get rid of it during upgrade.

Yes, you don't have to set up RAID.
