I'm thinking of picking up a socket A motherboard. My current board is a BE6-2 and has 6 IDE devices connected. The BE6-2 has two UDMA33 controllers and 2 UDMA66 controllers for a total of 8 possible connections. My question is if I pick up a RAID version of a board, can I treat the RAID controllers just as additional IDE controllers like I have on the BE6-2 and not use any of the RAID features, thus allowing me to connect all six devices without getting an add-in IDE controller card.
