Can Quake3 Arean and Quake3 Team Arena play together?

I have Q3A and my friend has Q3TA can we play together?

Also is Q3TA an update that's free like CounterStrike? If so where do I get it...or do I have to buy it separately?

TA is one hell of a game! I really like the new CTF maps: beautiful. The really test you system performance.

Couynterstrike is a mod im sure there are a few dozens of quake3 mods.

Team Arena cost about $30 is an add-on to Quake 3 (not a stand alone), plays as a separate game, and if you have it you should be able to play others in Q3a since it is an add on. It updates the Q3a exe to the 1.27 version though. This may cause problems unless you update to 1.27. I wish that they could have incorporated the weapons and stuff to Q3a since I prefer it's game play, but love the weapons and items in TA.
