ye, so looking at degree courses, i see computer systems engineering, computer information systems, and computer engineering technology (edited).

as far as i understand, CSE is more hardware/programin, and CIS is more theory, and good for gov jobs aswell.

can anyone go more in depth?

Well, I am not totally sure if this is how they breakdown, but I'll give it a shot. Really weird considering CSE and CES use the exact same words just in different order.

CSE - I would equate this with Computer Engineering, which is like Electrical Engineering. That is, these are the guys in charge of designing chips, hardware and the like. Intel, nVidia, etc...

CIS - This is like the IT department. They basically manage the computer systems for an office/company. At my school (Virginia Tech) this group actually fell under the Business college as Management Science and Information Technology (MSIT). I could be wrong but this is how I see it.

CES - Programmers? I really don't see how this would differ from CSE. Computer Engineering Systems vs Computer Systems Engineering? I mean come on.

Perhaps you can help us by posting the one or two line blurbs the school uses for them. As it stands, they are confusing.

I'm not too sure how different CIS is from MIS. but our MIS program teaches you how to be in the middle of the technology side and the business side of the IT world. ie. CIO of a comapny, or VP of Information Technologies.
