Can pencil trick give you less overclock?

I had a 700 Duron week 23 L1 bridges intact that I overclocked to 997Mhz when I mistakenly disconnected replacement (Alpha PEP66U) HSF when applying more arctic silver. I ordered an unlocked 700Mhz Duron from Overclockerz.com that came locked and penciled in the L1 Bridges. I can set the multilplier to whatever (900, 950) setting I want, but 8.5x100@1.65v is the most stable setting I can get. Could this be a problem with the type of pencil? Would a conductive pen to better? Or is it the batch of processor I got? I notified Overclockerz.com about the problem and will probably return the 700 for a 600 or 650 guarenteed to do 1 Ghz. I just hope Overclockerz.com are reputable and will remedy this situation soon.

They are actually selling a product that's penciled? Buwahahah! The only way I sell them is done properly with something of more permanence, like loctite. The quality of penciling has been proven to diminish over time, then they get flaky or quit overclocking altogether and you have to either repencil or clean it good and do it right (loctite). I have conductive pens coming and will be trying some soon.

HecDTec,
Try raiseing your volts to 1.7-1.75. This might help.
I have a duron at 8.5@115 1.75v. penciled. Conductive
pens last longer. try this link www.chemtronics.com

I agree with Compuwiz, I wwould never sell a processor that just penciled. IMHO the loctite solution is absolutely the best, better than a conductive pen. Reason being, the pens are really to fix traces on circuit boards with a some what stable temp. The chip goes through many thermal cycles, just like a rear window defogger.

Yeah, I know about the voltage upgrade when it starts to get unstable. It's the same with multiplier adjustments. I think I'll try the conductive pen or loctite. I'll let you know.

Maverick2002, it's actually a conductive paint like substance that is used for repairing cut grids in auto rear defrosters.

The loctite 'stuff' is metallized particles in a quick drying bonding agent. Nasty fumes, watch you eyes, might damage contact lenses. Nothing beats the stuff but it does dry fast. Acetone will remove it, in case you mess up.

Amd stuff here.

Hi Gregg. I'm not online, as far as a store. I've been helping people here for quite some time.
Please see above thread for what I currently have. :)
LMK if I can help.
