can pc3200 ram be run at pc2700 speeds?

i have a biostar 210V with a sempron 2800+

i've tried both pc2100 and pc3200 ram, but i can't get anything beyond 133mhz for the ram clock setting.

the chipset is a KM400A so it runs at 400mhz, but there's no setting to change anything beyond 133mhz.

is this simply a matter where i have to use pc2700 ram, or is something odd going on?

I checked the manual and it says that it is a km400 and supports max ram speed of pc2700. You might be stuck running it at pc2700 speed.
looks like its tied to the speed of the cpu fsb, which in this case is 166 and there are jumpers on the board to set it as well. Manual not very detailed on the bios information

jumpers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i bet that's it. this is the problem with doing everything through software. you forget the old school ways of doing things.

Almost all motherboards shipped today have manual statistics much lower than their capabilities. Look at the Asus P4WD2. It shipped with minimum device support and ended up supporting DDR2-800 and ATI Crossfire before they we're even released as final technologies.

well... i changed the jumpers, and well i'm not happy. i've been having nothing but freeze and reboot issues.

the board seems to run the CPU and the RAM on separate speeds. i set the clock to 166 and the ram to 200. it wasn't very stable. i then dropped the ram to 166 as well, and again, not stable.

the only way it really seems to like working is when everything is at 133. which isn't exactly what i wanted.

any suggestions on what's happening?
