Can OVerclocking harm other stuff?

Do I have to worry about anything when I over clocked the cpu in my computer? I have a KT7-raid and a 600 Duron running at 997.5 Mhz. (105 x 9.5) Should I worry about the FSB messing up the harddrive or video card in my system? OBTW the video card is over clock too 🙂.
 
Personally, I don't hink you should worry unless it's unstable at that speed. Overclocking the FSB runs everything overclocked, but if it's stable I don't see anything to worry about. Maybe a bit shorter overall lifespan, but that is inherit in OC'ing.
 
a high fsb MAY reduce the life on some components, but i doubt it would be much at all(especially because you're only 5mhz over spec) now when you start playing with the I/O voltages i would be careful
 
The only thing that count for the other stuff is the FSB.
5% over spec isn't thet much of a deal.
Can handle that!
 
The voltage is at 1.76 for the overclock duron chip. Well what is gonna die first? Okay, tell me this will they die like within the next 3 years? By then most of the component should be outdated... 🙂
 
oc'ing cpu decreases its lifespan from somewhat 10 years of normal use down to about 3 years overclocked. running cpu oc'ed causes a phenomenom called electro-migration, where excessive voltage force results in new pathways current pathways being "carved" into the the circuit. this will eventually short out or cause an error => cpu death!
 
Though there's no way of telling why it died, I had a sound card blow out. The microphone chip melted and it blew a cap. I was lucky it didn't screw up my video card sitting under it (big black scorch make on it, directly behind the main processor chip! WHEW!!). The sound card still works, and it's a cheap POS, so at most I lost 10 bucks. But, all the peripherials should suffer long term damage by OC'ing, or so I would think. But, considering the expected life-time upgrade wise, versus the amount you would lose should your video card go out times the chance of that happening, versus the cost savings with buying a slower CPU... It's best to over-clock ;-)
 
What about FSB speeds around 80-90 which make the PCI bus run at around 40. Can this fry PCI cards or will it just reduce their lifespan a little?
I'm trying to OC my 433 but am hesitant to use the "in-between" FSB speeds.
 
you will notice a shortened lofe span on some of those cards, but you will probably have already upgraded those parts 2 times over before they would have died
