Can outlook change something to read when i open it in the preview pane?

i'm not seeing this option and its really annoying having outlook tell me i have something new when i've already read the message.

this is for Outlook 2000, so it might be different for you. tools->options, "other" tab, preview pane, mark messages as read in preview window at whatever time delay you like.

I always use the preview pane here at work. Don't use outlook anywhere else.

why wouldn't you use the preview pane? there is no point in ever opening an email... it just shows up in the preview pane... I have always used it and I always will.

I also only use it at work. The server is pretty good at scrubbing that crap before it gets to me.
