I have a Xeon E3-1231v3 running on a Z97 board (MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition) and was wondering if anyone else has a similar setup using overclockable RAM. Right now I'm using 8GB DDR3-1600 but was considering buying a 2x8GB DDR-2400 kit. When contacting G.Skill they told me I might need a K-series CPU to overclock the RAM, but I have seen Digital Foundry use DDR3-2133 at full speed with an i3-4130 and a Z97 board in one of their i3-6100 review videos. I have had others tell me Xeons hate overclocked RAM but I'm using an E3 which is very similar to consumer desktop i7s, I don't have one of the Xeon E5 or E7 behemoths. Anyone know if an E3-1231v3 will work with overclocked RAM when using a Z97 board?
