When going from Win2000 to XP Professional should I order the upgrade version, or does Microsoft not consider that to be an upgrade

Good thing you get a lot more than that then, eh?

true but not much more.

yes you can get the upgrade edition. although why not upgrade to vista while you're at it? home premium should be good.

"should be" is the operative phrase - the fact that it isn't might be why the OP limited his question to an XP upgrade. 😉

I take it you've never actually read the release notes (or whatever MS calls them) describing the differences between XP and Win2K? All you may notice are the visual changes but a lot more happened under the hood than you think.

You can't upgrade from W2k Pro to Home anything, so skip that idea. Microsoft may refer to it as a clean upgrade, but it is in fact a clean installation from 2k Pro to Home (meaning nothing is saved that you want to be saved). I have a copy of Home Premium and thought about loading it onto my wife's PC to replace W2k, but that soon fell by the wayside after I researched it.

true and if your a gamer 2000 is not as good a platform for gaming as XP......
My XP disk became corrupted...but it was a copy so I had to turn to a 2000 disk that is also a copy.....

I miss XP as far as gaming goes...XP vs 2000 for everythjing else no huge difference!!
