Father to son transfer. Not a purchase from FFL. I looked for documentation on the internet but came up with nothing one way or the other. I've heard it can be done, but need hard evidence. Thanks.

Because you have to be 21 to buy a handgun or handgun ammo I'm going to assume no.

What's the hurry? Can't you wait a few years until he's over 21?

I'm pretty sure you have to have a FOID before you can own a gun in IL. The list of FOID card holders will help the state when it comes time to confiscate all the legally owned guns.

Since you are under 21, you will have to get a parent to fill out part of the application.

Ah, Parents getting divorced..I can see why you need a gun.

If you can't buy one, you can't own one. simple as that.

legally.

if your dad needs somewhere to stow the gun while the divorce goes down and hes worried mom will sell or take them, have him sell to a buddy for a couple bucks and buy them back later on after the dust settles. my ex wifes dad did this with his 1936 chevy, sold it to his friend for a buck and bought it back 3 years later. small consolation tho, she got half his pension when he retired anyway.

The gun laws in WA are a little wacky. I can't purchase a hand gun, or any ammo. But I can own and transport a handgun as long as when I transport it, it's in a carrying case. However, I cannot have it in my car because then it could be considered an illegal concealed carry.

wow, the ill informed idiocy in this thread is staggering.

there's a few sane posters, but most seem to be morons (which is typical for a thread about guns in ATOT).

I should have said that I have a FOID, and have for years. I had all my rifles and my shotgun transferred to me on my 18th birthday. ITs just the handgun I was wondering about. And BigJ, unless you read something I missed, it seems as though that just explains FOID regulations.

In Texas, you can give a handgun to someone under 21, but the original buyer of the gun will be responsible for anything that happens.
