Can one set email notifications to default with the "Watch Thread" selection?

It always defaults to "without receiving email notifications" for me. I couldn't find an option for changing this.
 
Not so far as I can tell. You can set it to get email notifications for any thread you reply to, but for simply watching a thread, the default can't be changed. It's an extra mouse click, but you'll have to bear with it 🙂
