can they exist well together?
they boath use all the same resources.
I tried relocating the pci controller but it still takes the same resources.
I gyuess I can turn the SATA controller off since i dont have SATA yet, but i figured
installing them same time during mainboard upgrade would help insure proper
assignment by the PnP system.

Modern mobos can share the same IRQ between 2 or more devices. This is usually not an issue. In some cases there may be a problem - usually causes random reboots or lockups.

I'm using a Promise controller card and also running a SATA HD on my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe mobo. Just inistalled the Promise card after the SATA drive was up and running, and connected another HD to it, and off she went. My Promise card shares IRQ 22 with the Ethernet.

Most devices are using the shared IRQs or virtual IRQs. IRQs are typically hard set by the equipment manufacturer. I would venture to say other than really old hardware you shouldn't have a problem with shared IRQs.

asked because its sharing the same irq with the Highpoint SATA raid.
i remember a FAQ once told me avoid that with the Highpoint133 onboard raid
on Abit kr7 / kx7.
