Can Office XP run on Windows 2000 Pro?

Also, can files be exchanged between two Office XP and Office 2K computers?

So you would recommend installing the same version of office on both the win2kpro pc and the WinXPpro pc.?

Most likely the user (not sophisticated in the use of MSoffice) would use only Word and just maybe Excel. He would also use just the most fundamental features of each.

I haven't found any problems with OfficeXP on win2k pro. I believe officeXP runs on win98 and up. Some have reported success with win95 IIRC.

What quarks are you talking about? Office XP works perfectly on my Win2K machine.

I think the quarks, uhh quirks Schadenfroh was refering to related to the 2nd question of portability between Office 2k and Office XP. :)

Versions of Office are backwards and fowards compatible with all Win32 versions of Windows.

Just apply the latest service pack to Office and you shouldn't have any issues.

I run Win2k with Office XP.

Works fine. Only thing is I guess there are some features that were designed to work with XP.
You just don't get them. But I think they are mostly cosmedic anyway.

Also I use Office 2000 at work and Office XP at home.
I have yet to run into any issues writing documents and editing them in both applications.
I have created documents in XP and been able to edit them in 2000 and use them again inXP
and the same with 2000, created in 2000, edited in XP and used again in 2000.

Just going to chime in and say that I have no problems with Office XP Pro w/ Frontpage on my Windows 2000 Pro system.

FWIW, the next version of Office is supposed to be dropping support for DOS-based systems such as 98 and ME entirely (if it makes Word crash less often, I'm all for it!).

i am not talking about quarks with officexp/windows 2000, i am reffering to transferring files from office xp to office 2k. i have seen some power point files get gh3y3d that way. but heck, 98 runs office xp flawlessly

Keep in mind there are problems when going back and forth between office versions as it relates to Access database files. For example I know for certain you can't view Access 2000 db's in Access 97 and I'm 90% sure its the same going from xp to 2k. At work I have actually had special situations where I've had to install two different versions of Access on one pc (97 and 2k). Its not straightforward but can be done fairly painlessly...

Also you can expect to load officeXP on win2k with no problems but I wouldn't recommend loading office 2k on an XP box....

Given that, I'd be looking into whether abilityoffice or staroffice or something else would fill the bill and save a few hundred bills.

Office Xp works fine on 95,98,ME, 2000, 2000 Server, XP home, Xp Pro, 2003 server

It is compatablity you need to look into, under your options for Word, select the feature to "disable features after microsoft Word 97"
This should help alleviate any problems sharing docs.
