Hey Guys,

Just wondering how 'likely' or 'easy' is it to cause permenant damage to your
video card by overclocking?

I know it will depend on much you overclock but is there a safe way to go.

Yes. IMO video cards, especially the more expensive ones aren't worth the risk to OC.

No true safe way, especially if you play games.

Video cards are stressed differently based on the game...so everytime you fire up Doom 3 you are, in effect, "dooming" your card.

It's fairly hard to damage electrical component without modifying the default voltage.

Is this the proper approach to overclocking? Wait a couple years until your card only provides marginal or just moderately acceptable performance and has lost value--then overclock. If it's successful, you get a couple more months or another year out of it. If not, oh well, it's a good excuse to get a newer card.
