can not download any executable files, HELP

Never had this problem until a few weeks ago. When I download any type of executable file it goes through all the motions with the download indicator progressing up to the end and then when it should be complete I get an error message. If I look at the directory where the file was downloading to I can see the name of the file but with zero file size.

I have a P2, with Win95, I originally had the "download accelerator" program to help speed up downloads, this worked OK for many months. One day i was trying to update the MSN messenger program and that is when I first got the problem. I eventually removed the Download accelerator and use the normal windows download program but it still will not complete the download.

Can you properly download an .exe if you right-click it and pick 'save target as' ?

What version of IE are you using?

edit>> just leaving this link here so I don't lose it, it may be pertinent

IE version 5.5

Could not download the exe file, could download a zip file though. The exe file went through the motions and seemed Ok but when I looked it had a zero file size again and would not open.

I still don't think you've answered this question. Anyway, I would take an update to the browser like service pack 2 for IE5.5 or IE6.0 and see if that fixes it.

After your last reply i went and tried to download another .exe file using the right button and "save target as", still it goes through the download process but another zero file size, if I try to open it i get "is not a valid Win32 application.

An extra point that may help is that I was sent a exe file as an attachment to an email some weeks ago and I could not get it to work either ? I even tried to copy the file from the attachment to teh Hard Drive and then ended up with a zero file size.

when u download, try to download as another extension. then rename it. its a shot in the dark, but what have u got to lose.
