Can not convert mov to mp4

I edit my videos by iMovie on my MAC. The output is mov format which I can play on MAC. Now, what i need is to convert it to MP4 video and save it to my iPad. So i can show it to my friends. My converter gave me error when i tried to convert mov. Is there setting on iMovie i should change?

.MOV is supported on iPad. Here are the supported formats:

Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

What converter are you using?

Try www.handbrake.fr

Pick the iPad profile and done. If that doesn't work, then there's probably something wrong with the file itself.

Oh, i only added mp4 files into iPad, did not try mov.

It is ok now. I select H.264 mov and it works. Thank you all for your kindness.

Depending on the internal codec of your .mp4 files, you could probably just change the file extension to .m4v and make it work with the iPad.
