Can no longer hear sound for any shockwave/flash movies

Hey everyone, so here's the problem:

For some reason, I can no longer hear sound when watching any type of shockwave/flash videos through my browser (such as google video). Additionally, and I believe this is related, the volume controls on my keyboard no longer work, either.

Both (the volume controls and sound for shockwave movies) used to work just fine. However, I recently installed a few different sound codecs (such as a divx sound decoder among others), and that seems to have been what might've caused these issues. All of those various codecs/decoders have be uninstalled, but the problem still persists.

I've attempted reinstalling shockwave and flash, and uninstalled/reinstalled my soundcard drivers, and have followed the instructions on my keyboards support site for troubleshooting the volume control buttons (they had me go through a series of regedit steps to check for possible missing keys, all of which were in place and set correctly).

I'm not out of ideas and would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank ya.

Edit: Forgot to mention that sound for everything else (non-shockwave movies, games, music) works fine. It's just shockwave movies viewed in my browser, and the volume control buttons on my keyboard that are messed up.
