Hi guys.

So, I would really like to run GTA IV, but I have heard stories about very poor performance. I decided to grab a pirated copy off Pirate Bay before buying.

It is unplayable. Horrible stuttering and FPS in the single digit range.

Is it because it is a pirated copy? My system should be able to run most games smoothly:

Asus G53J
GTX 460M
4 GB RAM
i5 2,67 Ghz dual core
Windows 7 64 bit

Just to make it clear: I will buy the game if I can run it. I am not asking for help in making the pirated version run.

I don't know exactly how fast a GTX 460M is, but laptop gpus are as a rule, significantly slower than their desktop counterparts. Also, GTAIV loves the fuck out of quad-core CPUs. The latest patch significantly boosts performance.

And finally, I wouldn't run around proclaiming you pirate shit. It's a quick way to get slapped with a banhammer around here.

Edit: For the record, I get around a steady 36fps on my system with everything on "High", 1680x1050 resolution, and the distance/detail bars at 35. GPU memory usage is 741mb of 768mb.

Developers have begun using tricks, where pirated copies of games are buggy & don't work correctly. It's not working right because you bootlegged it. Now go buy the game before you get banned.

pirate copy runs the same as legit, at one time it had the drunk cam but thats long been fixed.
You need the latest patch and crack to go with it. But its a rough game as it is anyway even on 460. Runs great on a 580gtx but if you use mods it bogs down quite a bit.

Since when is it ok to talk about piracy on the boards?

And GTA IV was so badly ported that no computer can really run it. I really don't know how they let it get out the door.

The performance of the game has changed dramatically through the patches. When I first got the game, I can't tell you how many hours I spent trying to get it to perform correctly. The game does have a thing for quad cores though (despite only using 15% of an i7 anyways), so maybe your processor is slowing you down.

I agree. The OP should keep his mouth shut concerning pirating. I've downloaded Quake 4 and Prey off Pirate Bay but I own those 2 games. It's just that the CDs are bad.
