Hey ive been reading these forums for a while now and this is my first post. I was wondering if my rig would be able to run a bfg geforce 6800 OC.

Here is my rig
Sony Vaio pcv-rz46g
Window XP Media Center Edition
P4 3.2GHz w/ HT
1GB PC2700 333Mhz DDR Ram
200GB 7200rpm Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive........Actually 2 hard drives, one 160 gb the other is 40 gb
DVD Rw Drive
CD-Rw Drive
295 Watt power supply
nVidia GeForce FX5600
Neovo 17" Monitor

Hopefully this is enough information to base this question on.
I ordered the bfg 6800 OC tthe other day along with a Thermaltake 420w power supply becaue i know i need more than 300W.

Thanks

kind of late to think aboot that, eh?

as long as there's an agp slot and enuf behind the slot room (the bfg is a big card) it ought to b fine...

only thing that strikes me would be your PSU. Is that a name brand? or some random crap? The rest of your components are decently power consuming, and adding a power hungry graphics card in the mix on that power supply that is probably already close to its max could be fatal.

since its sony brand only 295 watt PSU you'll definitely want to upgrade that before your video card, im not sure how your sony will work w/ the thermaltake power supply i've never seen a sony but i know dells use their own special power supply that can be a little bit smaller than the standard size you might want to call sony about upgrading the power supply im not sure

Since your system already has an FX 5600 then it has an agp slot which means you can upgrade the video card.

Is the case a standard sized ATX case? The only problem I could see with upgrading the PSU is if the case itself uses a non standard sized PSU. I've seen this on OEM systems like Dell , Compaq's and HP's.

If this is the case then you'll have to get a new case to accomodate the PSU you bought. It would be cheaper to do this than to go through Sony for a new PSU or to find one elsewhere.
