Can my rig handle HD4870?

Why wouldn't it be able to handle the 4870?

600W and a PCI-e slot looks good enough for me.

...and measuring tape, a ruler, or some other instrument.

The 4870 is about the same dimension as an ATX motherboard, i.e. when it's installed it doesn't extend past the edge of the mobo. If you have a drive bay right behind it access might be an issue, and it may cover up some ports depending on your mobo layout, but it shouldn't be a fit issue with the case

Thanks guys. I thought this would be okay but I just wanted to check incase I was missing something or would be bottlenecked.

What exactly is meant when it's refered to as a double slot card?

PSU is fine, and double slot means it'll take up two expansion slot spaces in the back of the case and motherboard. But you only need one PCI-E x16 slot for it to connect to the motherboard.

Alright, that's just like my X1900XT:p

I'll order on friday or saturday if the cashlive is still high.

In the mean time I need to worry about:
X2 6000 running at 50C idle
Browsers randomly stop loading
RAM dropping from 3.25 to 3gb

are you using 4gb with a 32bit OS? it could be having issues with mapping all the hardware in your system so it is downsizing the ram in order to make room for everything else. as for the X2 6000+, which one is it? newegg has 3 different 6000+ models listed, some with 65nm die, some with 90, and some with different wattages listed for the same die size.

regardless, you could probably just put an aftermarket cooler on it and call it a day

If it's a retail 6000+ 125W it comes with a larger stock copper HSF that's adequate. AC FP7 will cool it much better though, but really the FP7 is better for the noise factor as the stock AMD coolers are a tad noisy.

Careful with that card you linked to. It's an auction by Buy.com, which I don't believe allows you to use Paypal to purchase this item, something that's necessary to receive your 30% back.
