can my quantum 30 gig hard drive's controller be replaced with any quantum controller as long as it is a 7200 rpm ata 66 controller?
The reason why I ask is because I had an accident with the drive...actually it was stepped on, the connector and pins got demolished but I m sure the drive assembly is good. I can unscrew the controller board. So I assume it can be replaced. But does it have to be with the same model exactly, or can it with a controller that is from the same series of drives? Will quantum [maxtor] replace it for me?

Im sure the total cost would exceed the value of the drive to have it repaired. Id buy another drive and chalk that one up unless you can find a bad drive with just bad sectors and feel confident you can do it yourself. With the prices of HDD these days it really isnt worth the trouble unless you are trying to recover EXTREMELY valuable data.
