Got a G2 - love it.
Got it for $200ish off of Craigslist.
I thought the wararnty was transfferable, but T-mobile says it is not and I am SOL.
So, are there 3rd party folks who can fix it? Is there a way around the warranty? I cannot get in touch with the person I bought it from. Phone works fine, but the speaker for speaker phone and videos is not working. I tried taking the battery out and the factory reset, etc...

This is why you don't buy expensive elextronics off of craigslist. It's a dumping ground for broken parts pawned off as new or just like new.

You can have the warranty, all you need to do is call CS for a reason like "i just bought a G2 and would like to request the unlock code because i am going overseas" or any stupid stuff like "when can i get the OTA" the key in all this is to have technical support add the IMEI number to your account which is what they will do if you ask for the sim unlock because the IMEI of each phone is unique, then wait one more day and call to claim the warranty, it never fails.

No i would not suggest taking apart an HTC phone because the phones are built like crap, you find plastic tabs everywhere and then a lot of glued parts. It is not the easiest phone to take apart and with the Z Hinge you have the added difficulty of taking 2 phones apart, i'd just sell the phone as is before having to fix one myself. I have found samsung, apple phones much easier to fix than HTC.
