Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario 7588 that is about 2 years old. It has a P3 550 mhz processor. Can I use PC133 ram in this machine?

Apparently you can use PC133 in the place of PC100...but that info's only useful if you know what RAM you're currently running.

I wish I'd bought PC133 instead of PC100 - at least I could give it away now.

You can use PC133 in place of PC100 if you like. I would buy PC133 from now on instead of the slower PC100, it doesn't improve the speed of your motherboard (that is if you have a PC100 Motherboard), but if i was going to get a new Motherboard or buy a compeltely new system i can use the PC133 memory. Most new motherboards have a 133mhz FSB so you'll need PC133.

Your PC is 2 years old and it is probably PC100, You can use PC133. But do not use anything lower then PC100 like PC66 or the memory cannot keep up with your motherboard.

Yes, the CPU runs on a 100mhz bus (5.5 multipler times 100mhz), so you need ram that will run at least at 100mhz, so PC100 or faster, like PC133 would be fine. But PC66 is too slow and your PC will not work.
