Can "My Network Places" be customized?

Can My Network Places be set to go straight to the listing of computers in the workgroup, instead of the cached listing of open shares among all computers? Would be nice to be able to do this for both when I click on My Network Places, and when in explorer, when I open my network places in the left-hand folders bar.
